You think you know the path to victory? Then tell me how you'll win.

Will you buy triumph with gold and favors? Will you marshal armies and trade in blood? Or will you be the hand in the dark, your fingers on the strings? Whatever you decide, know this. If you put the innocent at risk...

You will answer to me.

I am the keeper of secrets and the teller of lies. I am the shadow of death and the bringer of light. I will become a Knight of the First.

And the Orders will crumble.
I don't know how I lasted as long as I did without reading this right after Court of Nightfall. If you remember my review of Court of Nightfall, I mentioned how there was a sort of lack of character development. I didn't let that deter me from continuing on and reading this, and I'm glad I didn't. The characters became more rounded, shaping themselves into the characters I love.

I really enjoy the concept of Nephilim in this story, along with their place in the world. I also love the ultimate decision Scarlett had to make, a decision that would affect the world and her plans more either way she went, and the integral consequence of her actions. While most main characters in other books nowadays would choose the most obvious choice on who to save coughloveinterestcoughI'm glad Scarlett didn't. It means she's got brains and she's not one of those selfish characters.

The author does a wonderful job continuing the series and making the readers want more. After I finished the book, I immediately looked at its publication date and sighed, groaning inwardly after realizing it had come out too recently for there to be another one to follow so soon. I'm looking forward to reading more and finding out what's up with Zorin and where the Orders is headed. Will Nightfall bring them down? Let's hope.
